Hey everyone! It's been awhile since I posted in my blog and I'm sorry for that. I grew a little tired of blogging everyday but figured I needed to let people know how Strasbourg is. We arrived this past Saturday and it's been a pretty enjoyable week. We've had a full week of activities and classes. When we arrived on Saturday we took a short little tour around the city, getting acquainted with where everything is. Strasbourg itself is a fairly decent size city on the French-German boarder with influences from both countries. I think Strasbourg has changed nationalities several times throughout the years, so there is both French and German influence on the architecture. We are staying at Citadines which is a fairly nice apartment complex right in the middle of Strasbourg. We are in the central hub, if you will, right in the middle of all the tram and bus stops which makes getting around really easy. We had two days of class this week, one of which is International Finance and the other is a class on the history of the European Union. Both classes are not all that fun to be in, but I get 6 credits for 12-13 days of overall class (roughly 5 hours each day) so it's not all that bad.
Earlier this week, we toured the Strasbourg Cathedral which is pretty neat. All the churches we've seen thus far are all different in their own way, but I think this cathedral was one of the more pretty ones. On Sunday we attended French mass which was interesting. I really didn't understand what was going on, but it seemed much more routine then a service I'm used to back in College Station. Earlier this week, we also had a boat tour of the river and got to learn some history about the town. After the boat dinner, Gaspar took us to our opening dinner at a pretty nice restaurant were I made some pretty good friends who I've been hanging out with on the trip, Courtney, Brooke, and Sarah. We also took an hour bus ride outside of town to view one of the local castles which had a really pretty view. The tour guide provided so much detail and history, I kinda got tired of listening.
But overall we've had a great first few days in Strasbourg. Today we went to the park and played a little Ultimate Frisbee; much more relaxed then I'm used to I'll have to say. Definitely had to tone down the competitive attitude, but it was fun to throw the disc around. My throws definitely are a little rusty, but I still have most of my skill. I definitely miss playing, especially all the bids and layout D's that come with the sport. I also have been missing Texas BBQ and Mexican food. I also miss free refills which I have taken for granted for so long. I've been packing my lunch for school each day (usually a PB&J, banana, chips, and a Pepsi) which is kinda wierd not having packed a lunch since elementary of middle school. We've definitely learned to take advantage of the grocery store because it's much cheaper and you can have a good meal for 3-4 Euro.
Tomorrow we head out for Munich, and I'll be sure to update everyone while I'm outside of the Strasbourg. We have a 6:50am train, so it will be an early morning. Update everyone again soon!
