Barcelona Day 2

Hey everyone! So we got a little late start because the events last evening, but I woke up around 11:30 and we finally made it out of the hostile by 1pm.  We initially planned to go see the famous church in Barcelona, but we headed in the wrong direction so we just continued walking down the street to see Camp Nou, which is the football stadium for Barcelona FC. I was pretty excited to see the stadium even though I’m not a Barcelona fan.  Barcelona is a really prestigious club with a lot of history and achievements on their belt.  I admire their style of football and don’t mind watching their games when I get the chance.  Admission to the stadium was 19 Euros which I thought wasn’t all that bad for my interest in soccer.  We got to see the dressing rooms, field, trophy room, press box and a few other things.  Grant, Tyler, and Austin didn’t really want to see the stadium so we split up about 2:30 when we got to the stadium.  While at the stadium, Sam and I met a man and his wife named Eric and Elan, who are both from Poland.  He was a big Barcelona fan and we talked to both of them for probably 20 minutes about our travels and theirs. We also learned that Polish people are not permitted into the United States, and how they would like to travel to the states one day if permitted.  We learned that they are Christians, and know Jesus as their Savior which was really cool.  Eric said only 10% of the population are true Christians and the other 90% are lost. It was really encouraging and cool hearing how he overcame his former drug use of 12 years and how his life was turned around when he met Christ. But as for my impressions of the tour, and stadium, I really enjoyed it.  The stadium is one of the largest in the world, if not the largest holding 99,000 people.  It would have been really cool to see a Barcelona game especially watching the likes of Messi, Iniesta, David Villa, among the other Barcelona greats.

After touring the stadium, we tried to meet up with the other guys who had headed down to the pier/beach and were taking a Gondola up onto one of the mountains off the coast which had quite a few things to see like a castle and an Olympic stadium when they hosted the Olympics back in 1992. We took the metro over to where they were and grabbed a snack onto the way to the Gondola. The gondola took us over the edge off the bay onto the nearby mountain which had a really nice view.  We walked uphill a ways to see the castle.  We were pretty tired afterwards, so Sam and I took a bus down to the Metro and took the metro back to the hostile.

Since we are now accustomed to eating more on the local time, we had some time to kill until dinner.  We met up with Cathy, the girl from Australia and a few of her friends, and played President’s for about an hour. We then went to dinner at a local restaurant which was pretty good.  We got back to the hostile around 11pm and I ended up talking with Elise and Rafael, two people I met yesterday being around the hostile. Around 12pm, we ended up heading out to the famous church we never got around to seeing.  Apparently they have been working on this church for 400 years or something and are still not close to finishing.  The church was very impressive but was too dark to take pictures of.

Also tonight at dinner, I learned that we actually saw Roman Abramovich’s yacht which was pulling out of the bay where we were today.  His boat called “Eclipse” is really fancy (I heard it was worth 1.2 billion). Anyway, this was really cool to me in that he’s the owner of Chelsea FC, my favorite soccer team. And of course I forgot to charge my camera battery so I don’t have pictures of today’s events, so in all likelihood I’ll be stealing some of Sam’s pictures off Facebook.
